Once more autumn holidays in Crete where we stayed at the same place as previous years. But this time we did the hike through the Samaria gorge. The big trees and their scent are impressive and really worth the long day trip.
River diving in the Verzasca and Maggia. We did three diving spots in the Verzasca, all of them excellent visibility and stunning rock formations. Visibility in the Maggia was not as good, but the places were really spectacular.
The mountains near Gufelstock changed a lot during the last 20 years. The alp is no longer cultivated and the grassland is now dominated by blueberries and high grass and many small tracks we used in the past are barely visible or completely disappeared. We finally managed to clean up most of the material we stored there.
Hiking with the IBM team at Pizol.
Hiking in the Alpstein. I started from the Saentis, crossing the Lisengrat and Altmannsattel to reach the Fählensee for a refresher. Then all the way down to Brülisau passing by the Sämtisersee for another refresher.
The highlight was the hike up to the Arpelistock 3036m from where one can see from Mont Blanc in the west as far as to the Säntis on the East.
Third diving safari to the Red Sea. This time I saw for the first time four dolphins while diving. We had the change to snorkel with them for more than an hour after that. They are so curious!
This was at the SYSTOR conference in Haifa. The social event was an excursion to the old town of Safed, one of the four most important ancient Jewish cities along with Jerusalem, Hebron, and Tiberias.
The stunning Great Canyon of Switzerland. I did take a bath in the Rhein and next day in Lake Cauma. The temperature was certainly not more than 14 degree.
Short business trip to Hursley near Winchester. This time, we found an excellend Sushi place.
Visiting the Zoo Zürich with friends from Bern. Mostly pictures from the Kaeng Krachan Elephant Park, the Massoala hall, and the aquarium in there.
Finally I did it after so many year at Berguen: I climbed up to the top of the Darlux from where one has a great view in the nearby valleys. Last but not least, congrats Tina, for the fabulous deep snow trace!
The morning before traveling back from the Flash Memory Summit I went to the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco and did a hike up to the Strawberry Hill. After a short stop at the Chinese Pavillion at Stow Lake I visited the Japanese garden and had some excellent green tea there.
This years highlight was the hike down from Scex Rouge over the glacier to lake Sanetsch and the hike up to the Lauenehorn. ALso the Swiss TV show “Bi de Lüüt” was taking place in Saanen.
Visiting the Zoo Zürich with focus on the new Kaeng Krachan Elephant Park and the Massoala hall. There were an exceptional amount of chamaeleons presenting themselves this time. I had the impression that the corals and fishes in the big aquarium of the Massoala hall got special care recently.
Dive safari on the Heaven Freedom to the Brothers islands observing sharks (including one longimanus), different wrecks including the Salem Exrpess, and lots of coral gardens. Special thanks go to Olivier for his nitrox blends.
ESTA weekend in Magglingen including a hike through the Twannbach gorge.
Another trip to Houston. I visited the Houston Zoo and Hermann Park nearby which has a nice Japanese garden. The highlights were certainly the Houston Rockets and Astros games besides the numerous steaks and sushi dinners.
The next edition of Berguen ski holidays with very little snow down in the village. Achievements are significant improvements in the technique (Tina) and speed (Marc).
Autumn holiday in Malia, Crete. Warm enough to take a decent swim in the Sea. We visited the Crissi Island in the south, did a jeep safari through the Lassiti high plateau, and visited the temples of Knossos.
The Matterhorn sightseeing flight was a unique birthday gift from my parents and brothers. On a sunny autumn Sunday we took off at Sitterdorf, crossed almost entire Switzerland passing by Andermatt and the Aletsch region on the way to the Matterhorn. On the way back we flew along the impressive Eigernordwand and overflew Pilatus.
The third summer holiday in Saanen. This time, I went up to the Geltenhuette together with Tina - the first time she saw Edelweiss in the wild. The toboggan run on the Rellerli was big attraction as well as the ball path in Saanen.
Many great attractions, especially the Flying Ninjago where you can rotate like a propeller if you manage to build up the right momentum with your wings is a great experience - but be carful with your stomach.
ESTA weekend in Ebnat-Kappel.
This was a wine tasting excursion where we went up to the Grande Dixence barrage. There was still a lot of snow up there which made it too dangerous to walk up to the top of the barrage.
Excursion to the Kinderzoo in Rapperswil on a perfect spring day.
Berguen reloaded. Once more we went to this lovely ski resort. This won’t be the last time though…

The second summer holiday to Saanen. Again, a hike to the Geltenhuette was on the agenda and many other smaller hiking tours with the kids.
My first dive safari on the Heaven Saphir to the Deadalus reef, Rocky island and Zabargad observing sharks and even one manta.
Visiting once more New York with my mom and my brothers. The great thing about this trip was that I was able to visit places I haven’t been before such as the High Line, Roosevelt Island, Staten Island as well as places I have visited more the 13 years ago such as the Zen Palete.
A visit to Cambridge and London. Seeing the colleges, the Duxford Airfield, the Royal palace, the Big Ben, London Eye, Tower Brigde and much more.
A short visit with guided tour through the Massoala hall.
This is the 2013 edition of the ski holidays in Berguen. Once more, a fabulous ski week with perfect weather and snow conditions and the final ski race for the kids at the end of the week.
New York before, during, and after hurricane Sandy. We spent a great weekend visiting the Moma, lower Manhattan, and Central Park just the day before the hurricane. I took a picture from a halo that day which - remebering my sailing career - always announced really bad weather. We ended up having our business meetings over the phone from the hotel…
Saanen, Berneroberland. I know the place since many years but visited it mostly during the ski season. This time lots of hiking to the Lauenenesee, Arnesee, as well as the Geltenhuette where I saw many Edelweiss in the wild for the first time.
I visited Rochester in Minnesota two times this year to meet my working colleagues. So I spent some time at the Mall of America which has one of the largest Lego shops and a small Sea Life aquarium.
After more than 12 years I finally made it to visit Belize and in particular Caye Caulker. But this time with my AOWD certification which enabled us to visit the Blue Hole. Unfortunately after a Hurricane, the dive sites just in front of the caye are no longer what they have been and one has to go to the Turneffe Atoll or Lighthouse Reef to see what used to be just in front of the door.
ESTA weekend at Zugerberg with visit to the zoo in Arth Goldau and hiking around Zugerberg.

A round trip through Corsica with Strebels. Initially we stayed at Palombaggia from where we visited Bonifacio and Porto Vecchio. Then driving through the mountains to the west coast to Calvi before returning to Bastia to re-embark.
Back again in San Francisco. As we didn’t have a lot of time we just visited the Japanese Garden, the Golden Gate Bridge, and campus of Stanford University.
On a business trip to Israel we visited Tel Aviv and had the chance to fly with a small plane over the city in the early evening. In addition, I took a few days off together with Robert and his mother to visit Jerusalem.
